We have sold the house and divided the profits. I have bought a new house. HE has a girlfriend he is living with ( same one he was cheating with before he left.). I am dating. We have a signed custody sharing agreement.
I received the papers in the mail and put them in my file cabinet. No hurry. Is there something that I am not thinking of? Let the attacks begin!

Because, if you are still married, then he has a right to EVERYTHING you obtain during the marriage. He has a right to a portion of your income, your life insurance, any inheritance, equity from your new home etc... It is called Community property. If something happened to you and you ended up in a coma in the hospital, he would be the one making the decisions. Do you want that- Remember Terri Schivo in Florida? Do you want to have that situation.

You have both moved on, just sign the papers and be done. Also unless you contest it, I think that he can take it to the juadge and get it completed without your signature.

Just sign the stupid papers and move on, I don't understand why you don't want to. Until you are legally divorced, if you date, then you are cheating on him.

Community property. Because each of you will be entitled to 1/2 of each others property till divorced is filed, including debt.

personally, i would want the divorce finalized so that there is no way I could possibly be considered responsible for any of his financial matters.. You would be surprised at the things that may come back to haunt you as technically, you are legally married, unless of course, you have a LEGAL SEPARATION...

Community debt. If he runs up a major debt, you're still liable for half of it. That would make me want to sign the papers quickly!

You do not have to be in a hurry, but understand that he can get a judge to finalize without your signature.

If you've done all the other stuff, WHY wouldn't you seal the deal and get it over with? I don't understand.
