i've been reading a book in class and its called Maniac Magee. in this book, there is a small section that talks about such shaking. anyone who goes near Mr. Finsterwald's residence chatters, not just their teeth, but their entire body, because they are terrified of him. no one has ever seen him though. in the book, this shaking is informally called the 'finsterwaldies'. our class is writing up newspapers on this book, and the group i'm in wants me to do an article on why people shake when they are scared, for the Health section. please i need to know!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It's to do with your body's reaction to fear, you get a rush of the hormone adrenaline which makes your body more able to react quickly in a stressful situation. Adrenaline can speed up your heartbeat, dilate the pupils so the body is more able to "fight or flight". One of the problems with this biological response is that it can occur when you dont really need it to, for instance if you are frightened but can't do anything about it, e.g. seeing a spider on the tv, after an accident or you are suffering post traumatic stress disorder when you remember a traumatic event.
shaking can also be a sign of shock after a traumatic event.

As others have mentioned, it's probably an instinctual response (adrenaline). When the body senses danger, it provides you with what you need to get out of the situation...adrenaline has a caffeine-like effect to wake you up to a heightened stage of alert. One of the side-effects of this higher alertness is shaking, because you are receiving a sudden burst of energy.
It's similar to other things the body will do to prevent trauma, such as going into shock, where the body will shut down so that you will not be awake to experience something that would be hard on your mind.

My son use to wake up with Night Terrors...He would walk around my house screaming hysterically for almost an hour. We had a hard time waking him up.His body would tremble uncontrollably, every muscle in his body was quivering..At one time I thought he was having some sort of Seizure...I don't know the physical reason one trembles, But its your bodies reaction to your brain saying something isn't right , and your body is putting out too much adrenalin

I dont know why this happens, but I have this problem, after I went on a ride at hershey park, I shook uncontrolably and hyperventilated for over 20 minutes.
Same thing happens when Im nervous, or upset, its really wierd, and annoys me alot. But I just have no control over it!

They shake because their brain tells their body parts to shake when it feels frightened by a certain circumstance.

It is the burst of adrenaline that is produced by the brain, and then sent to the muscles which causes the quivering.

courage often shakes and not knowing why we fear something is the reason why we stand on that shaky ground. on that road to courage. afraid we may be wrong and receive a punishment we have not imagined, It most surely is because coward stood up to become courage.

Adrenaline is a powerful chemical and being a scaredy cat can really set that stuff off.
