Think about it. We gotta deal with our parents, who are constantly on our backs. We gotta deal with friends and all their holy "life advice". We gotta deal with the government: right-wing or left-wing, they're just two sides of the same coin, shoving their conservative and liberal dogmas down our throats. And then there's the media, who think they know more about what I should want from life than I do. I just get so confused sometimes, and I'm fed up with trying to appease all these different influences in my life. I've tried before, and it's impossible to please everyone all the time. People should listen to their own voice. It's just so hard sometimes. Sometimes I feel like I have 30 different voices shouting in my head, telling me what to do. Do any of you ever feel this way?

Congratulations. You have just attained a realization that most of the people you know never will. Most people walk through their lives like mindless, content sheep...they don't even see the extent to which every single thing they do, they buy, they wear, they believe, etc. is dictated to them by their society, specifically their family and friends, the government, and the media. The first time you see a commercial for a product, you may think it's something worthless you wouldn't spend a dime on...but, after you've seen the commercial a few thousand times, one day you see the item at the store and have an impulse to buy it. It's still a worthless item, but you've been compelled by a fine bit of media brainwashing to buy something you didn't need or want. The same is true of politics: generally speaking, he, who has the best and most advertising, wins. It doesn't have anything to do with ability or experience; he could be a complete idiot and win...twice even.

However, here's the deal: it's your life. You get only one. Dead is dead. Figure out for yourself what's important and then do it before you are too old, sick, or dead to do it. Make a list of the ten or so most important things you want to do, places to go, experiences to have, etc. What would you do if you only had three years to live? The number of people who die each second is not easily counted. In the next moment, it could be any of us. Make your list. That is your best guide for deciding what is most important for you to do with your life. Good luck and good life!

I decided a long time ago to simply live my life the way I see fit and I don't care what society thinks or my mother or anyone else. I especially apply this to raising my son. People are sometimes shocked that I allow my 14 year old to swear. In my opinion, it's not the word you use that makes it bad, it's how you use it, so if my son says the s-word when he's mad at his video game, I don't care. Now society says the s-word is "bad" but when I ask people what makes it "bad" no one has a good answer - they just follow what everyone else thinks, they have no mind of their own.

Most feel this way...but kinda like you said, it's up to the individual to choose their own path. Most choices are not forced on us (gun to the head), but there are consequences for all choices...good and bad. Parents, media, religious leaders, etc....all have their own opinion, but the individual need to make the decision on their own, because they are the ones who will have to live with it. If you are young or living at home, it will only get worse in "the real world". Learn to listen to your own voice, and make your own decisions...the influences will never stop, but you are in control.

Good luck!

There are lots of messages that we receive everyday. The reality is that we will follow someones message. The goal is to make sure you are listening to the people who are giving you the best messages. Back away from outside sources if they are confusing and concentrate on the most important people in your life. In this life you must simplify or remain mystified!

Seriously why do you care what all those voices are saying if you so strongly believe that you shouldn't have to have all the people and influences on your back. I think that you are creating this problem for yourself, because it is your choice.....
Slow down and quit caring about everything......Ultimately you chose what is the right influence in your life and the rest you need to ignore.
Right now is the media at your front door asking for you opinion. No they are on your T.V which you have a CHOICE to turn off......See simple right......

When you get older you'll filter out the dumb/bad advice and let in the good. In the meantime read everything you can on both sides of issues you're interested in and make up your own mind. That's part of the maturing process. Forget pleasing everyone. They'll be happy and you'll be miserable as you've already found out......

No, I always know what to do and how to act. People always ask me what they should do and how they should act. I'm pretty much the source of all that is good and right with the world. There is only one voice in my head, it's a very loud and strong and glorious one and it never leads me wrong, because it's my voice.

yeah i do. i choose not to listen to them anymore. i know its hard. what helped me was Ecstasy. I'm not advocating this to everyone but it helped me get over a lot of personal barriers. when used properly and in the right environment (not a rave) then it can help break down barriers which is what it was developed for anyway. but seriously just do what you want with your life and you will eventually find be people that share similar views and will support you instead of tearing you down.

cheers

Certainly, and this is an effect of your society, especially with teenagers because they have not yet learned how to play the life game in society. Yes...you will always have to conduct yourself in an acceptable fashion ( in any society) but that does NOT mean you cannot THINK your own thoughts and arrive at your own conclusions. Many years ago Ricky Nelson sang " Garden Party ".........You Can't Please Everybody, So Please Yourself "

In felt that way,
But not with my parents or friends. My parents were the ones telling me always question authority, and My friends are there for me when I'm down.

It's society I fed up with. Telling me what is right for me, and how I should talk, and walk and worship.....

I know what's best for me, not whoever came up with societies "rules"
