A motorcyclist could be any "Joe" who rides. He may just ride because it is less expensive or makes parking easier.A biker rides for the sake of riding,A biker needs to ride or he'll start to 'jones' and want to kill something.A biker makes plans around and including riding. When given a choice about 'What do you want to do?' a biker will always choose to ride(well with the exception of getting laid).A biker considers his club or riding group "family" and his ride his kid(Well maybe that's just me) Anyway a biker" Lives to ride ,rides to live" and a motorcyclist just , well, rides.

A biker is the kind of guy with way too much chrome on his obviously overpriced cruiser, prejudice for anyone that doesn't ride the same American made bike as him or an equivalent that costs more, that garages his bike any any day that isn't a sunny weekend in the summer, and wears riding gear because it looks "cool."

A motorcyclist is the kind that doesn't give a damn what you ride as long as you ride, has logged more miles on his bike than his car, rides in any weather including the winter, thinks that highway riding is boring, taking the back roads everywhere just to enjoy the turns, wears a full face helmet that does more in an impact than protecting the crown of the head and jacket/ pants that actually protect his body from the road, has taken a MSF class, and knows how to take his bike apart and put it back together.

Thankfully, I'm a motorcyclist. Until this year I didn't even own a streetable car after I bought my bike.

To all the motorcyclists, keep on riding.

To all the bikers, see you next June.

A "biker" doesn't care about riding at all. They most likely own a harley and park it in front of a bar or club most of the time. It's all about the image to them and not about riding at all.

A "motorcyclist" is just the opposite. It's all about riding and they don't care about the image at all.

Well if you need to ask whats the difference..... then YOU ARE NOT, and I REPEAT, N O T, a Real Biker, I am 47, been riding since I was 7, that equals 40 years and over one million miles on 2 wheels, I ride in Sun, Rain, been caught in Hail Storms, Rode to Cripple Creek Colorado, pitched the tent, and woke up the next morning to SNOW covering my Scoot, got up, fired it up and Rode to Breakfast, No Biggie.... its a way of Life, and as a Bro once said... Born on a Mountain, Raised in a Cave, Bikin and F**kin is all I Crave.

The ONLY difference lies in who is using the term. Anyone with a bike can be called a motorcyclist. But there are some hard-core nutjobs who say you can only call yourself a biker if you _______. And the _______ varies.

Theres actually about three classifications here, The biker who has the "biker" persona. then theres the (hmm BMW rider comes to mind) Rider who rides to work every day doesn't own a car but doesn't dig on the whole biker persona and then there is the guy who has a harley that spends 99% of the time in the garage. (this is because his SUV is for commuting!)

For the most part the Ride to work, work to ride guys and the bikers have somewhat of a truce. neither of the aforementioned groups have a whole lot of respect for the "fair weather rider"

Side not is that Bike mechanics Also hold somewhat of a predjudice against riders who dont know how to maintain their bikes. A Quote from my mechanic who is my good friend. "there are mechanics and there are riders" most mechanics talk a lot of smack about their customers

A true biker is an outlaw, looks the way he wants, acts the way he wants, does what he wants, when he wants, to whoever he wants. Rides an American bike, Harley or Indian, and usually is a great Friend or a fierce enemy, to have. Lives the full lifestyle, rides rain or shine. A motorcyclist is just someone that has a bike, any kind, only rides it occasionally, in good weather, would never think of wearing an illegal helmet, and lives a conventional life.

Ahhhh I dunno, I think we're all "bikers" just to different degrees. Some are kinda actually snobbish about using the term "biker" to meaning only the HD class leather wearing cruiser-types are "BIKERS" which to me is BS. The "motorcyclist" term is, oh I dunno, just trying to sound somehow more "professional" about it, like they don't want to associate with "those" types of bikers. Well hell, whatever you want to call yourself you're still just a BIKER. Kinda like how they want to invent fancy schmancy names for all kindsa different jobs now, like how a "mechanic" got changed into "auto technician", just a fancy title they invented so you'll work for less money, heh heh. Now I'd agree there are different terms or "degrees" which could be added to the name biker. The one described above I would probably refer to as Biker Trash, he'd probably accept the name as a badge of honor if you'd ask him. A bit lesser degree, someone who does ride all the time, but manages to stay out of the Dade County lockup, you'd probably just call "hard core". Most of us are just plain Bikers, and them weekend riding turds I'd probably just refer to as a "candy-assed weekend warrior biker".

A biker rides in the rain, cold, heat, dark, any condition. He/she does their own repairs, or as much as possible. Their leathers are worn from the road. It's not the people that buy a bike and ride it once a month, or trailer it to rallies.

Just a thought. It's said that the average Harley only gets ridden 3000 miles a year. Not much for a real biker is it.
My roadstar averages 15,000 miles a year.
