Anything you try will only work if your body is ready to go into labor. I tried everything in the book from nipple stimulation to going down bumpy roads. Contractions would start but then stopped. I ended up being induced three days after my due date because the doctor was concerned the baby maybe over 9 pounds.
My advice is to get a book, put some music on, take a bubble bath, then take a nap and relax. Or go on a date with your husband. Soon you will be tired and crave some alone time. Who knows, maybe doing something to take your mind off a due date will be enough to make you go into labor.
Good luck and have a blessed birth.

I tried everything to start labor with both my kids, in the end I was induced with both. Its kind of nice being induced though. Your already at the hospital, you know its actually labor, the pain isn't gradual its just all of a sudden and won't last 36 hours. Everything is alot quicker. I had my daughter 9 hours after I was induced and my son 6 hours after being induced. I would prefer to be induced again rather than waiting for nature to play it's part. Good luck!

Start cleaning your house, do your closets, wash all the laundry. I don't know if you will start labor, but at least your house will be ready for company after the baby comes and you don't have a waking minute to call your own. By the way, I gave birth on my due date and you still have a few hours. I'd be really careful about doing anything to change the natural course of things unless your doctor has an excellent reason. And if he does, I'd listen to him, and not experiment with herbs and spices or driving over railroad tracks.

What the first girl said is true and a doctor can tell you it is. YOu are supposed to do that for 15 minutes every so often. Im sure you an find something abuot it online. I was induced with my second son and it was fine. My labor lasted only 3 hours and I was actually only in pain for the last hour. It was an easy labor.

Take a hot bath (not toooo hot) :) It'll help soften your cervix. Also try evening primrose oil, take 1000mg 2x a day that will help soften your cervix too. Delayed labor is generally because either the baby isn't ready or your body isnt responding to what the baby is asking. Once your cervix is ripe things will happen on its on. Normal gestation is anywhere between 38-44 weeks though, but I think modern docs wont let you go past 41 or 42 weeks.

It is not recommended to use teas, herbs, laxatives, or drugs on your own. Remember only 5% of women will actually deliver on their due date. Being induced under your doctor's supervision is SO MUCH safer to you and your baby than inducing labor on your own. And being induced by the doctor really isn't that bad, I actually hope to be induced again (23 weeks w/ #2) b/c my labor and delivery only took 4 1/2 hours w/ my daughter. Good luck to you, and congratulations.

nipple stimulation really DOES work! (that is why sex can be effective too) some people swear my taking castor oil....but you have to think about how it works before you decide you want to put yourself through it. the way it works, is that it cleans you out. you will be spending LOTS of time in the bathroom. you can vommit or it may come out the other end (sorry) but those convulsions can start contractions, but not always enough to induce labor, so not too worth it too me! bleck. my sis-in-law was told, once she started contractions to visualize herself having the baby and to relax....her body kept TRYING to go into labor for 3 weeks but it always fizzled out. good luck, the time will be here before you know it!

Nipple Stimulation is a great labor starter! I did this with my first pregnancy and I went into labor the next morning. No guarantees that it will happen that fast for you, but it couldn't hurt to try! Here is a site that has more info on it. Congrats and Good Luck.

Don't go by the ole wives tale of massaging your nipples. That wives tale is to get your milk to come in. Why don't you just let nature take it's course. I have had 4 children 3 grown up and 1 7year old in 1st grade. And Right before I went into labor, I cleaned and rearranged furniture the whole nine yards. I don't think there really is anything you can do but wait for your Doctor. Congrats by the way. :)

I remember reading in What to Expect When you are Expecting about massaging your nipples too!! I was almost three weeks early so didn't have this problem, but I have heard that walking and excercise work. While in labour at the hospital they recommend walking and walking and walking...Good luck!
