and will go to any great length to prove themselves right, obsessing for days weeks etc. This obsession must be a pyschological problem but does it have a name?

Narcissistic. Or stubborn. Pigheaded. Ignorant. Insecure Immature. Unevolved. Low self-esteem. I could go on and on but I just realized I am describing a close relative and a couple of ex-bosses.
