It was written by Nelly Furtado, no one else has ever sung it. The melody and rhythm of the first part of the song do remind me a lot of the song "self control" by Laura Branigan though.

im trying to figure out the name of the original song the beat came from too. its an 80's song, but no one seems to know it. i can play the song in my head, but i dont remember any of the lyrics...i know the original had a guitar solo and a part with a keybord that sounded like those dinosaur slippers that made the funny sound when u took a step. the chorus for the song sounded like they were saying "its just a sexy purpose..." i know its probably way off from what they were saying, but thats what i can remember. i need to find out the name of the original too for a friend who also is driving me crazy...:S furtado said she was influenced by the song "here comes the rain again" but thats definately not it.

It does sound like an older song but it is not. Nelly Furtado wrote it.
