My wedding is not until April of 2008. But I am completely in love with a Justin Alexander gown that is so out of my price range. So I wanted to see if I could have a seamstress make something that looks similar to it. How long would this take? Should I make an appointment with the seamstress now? Heres a picture of the dress!

Thanks everyone. I thought I should start early too because not only is the dress big in itself, but I would like to tweak it a little. Like adding sleeves and stuff. Thanks everyone!

I would make a preliminary appointment as soon as possible. Talk with her about what you want, show her pictures and drawings and be as detailed about what you want as you can. Dresses take a long, long time to make, and there will probably be multiple fitting sessions to get it just right. You don't want her to still be sewing on sequins the week before the wedding!!

You will need to start talking to seamstresses in the really near future. You will have a lot of decisions to make and the sooner you get on it the better. I'd say the absolute latest you could wait is sometime this summer.

Making the dress once all measurements and materials are obtained will take a couple of weeks by itself. I haven't looked at the dress but if there is a lot of detail (beading etc ) it will take even longer. Get a move on girl.

The sooner you do, one less thing to worry about. Weddings are a lot of work. I love that dress.
