There does not seem to be a specific name for them simply---rope makers or rope workers.

Rope makers are called corders, and what they make, no matter what the size can be called cordage (The manufacturerwho used to operate at cordage park in plymouth, ma used to make ship's cordage--lines as big around as your arm).

Roper is the correct term. Comes from old english rap which is the same root for stirrup.

Not cordwainers, anyway. A cordwainer is a shoemaker, and the word is related to "cordovan", a particular kind of leather.
