And where it came from?

Yes I can tell but you won't believe it. Understand first, that the line from the Book of Revelation that the 666 comes from is written in the present tense rather than the future tense. This means that it refers to a certain historical personage alive and well when Revelation was written. Most people erroneously read that line as"...It is the number of a certain man and his number shall be 666..." THAT IS INCORRECT.

The author of Revelation was referring to a certain person alive and well when he penned those words. That somebody was none other than Caesar Nero, the very same person responsible for his exile to the Island of Patmos. When Casesar Nero's name is written out in Hebrew and a number is assigned to each letter of his name, then his name sums up to 666. To the early Christian community of the time of Revelation that number signified complete imperfection. Revelation goes on to say that the writer was amazed to see the beast receive a mortal head wound yet live again. Caesar Nero committed suicide by striking himself on the head (neck) with his own sword, thus receiving a mortal head wound. His successor was his nephew Domitian, an even worse persecutor of the early Christians. The early Christians were bilingual Hebrew/Greek. Coincidentally (or not!), Domitian written in Greek, with a numeric value assigned to each letter also adds up to... You guessed it, 666.

"Here is wisdom. Let him who has understanding calculate the number of the beast, for the number is that of a man; and his number is six hundred and sixty-six," (Rev. 13:18). 666 is the number of the antichrist, the end times figure who will arise with the purpose of opposing God and God's people. 666 is the gamatria of the name of the antichrist. In Greek and Hebrew there are no numeric characters. There are only alpha characters. For example, the letters a, b, c, d, e, f, etc. are alpha characters. The numbers 0, 1, 2, 3, etc., are numeric characters. They are different -- except for the letter "o" and the number "0". When the Greeks wanted to write a number, they used letters for numbers. The Greek letter "alpha" had the numeric equivalent of 1. The next letter "beta" has the numeric equivalent of 2, and so on. Therefore, whenever a word in Greek is written, because the letters are also numbers, every word has a numeric value. This numeric value is called a gematria. The Greek word for Jesus (IhsouV) has a mathematical equivalent of 888. Also, the Greek word for fish is 1224. What the Bible is saying is that the future antichrist will have a name that when it is written in Greek, its numeric equivalent will be 666.

The number comes from the biblical book of Revelation, Chapter 13, Verse 18. It is referred to as the number of the Beast. The beast is often considered to be Satan dwelling in the body of a the anti-christ. In the end times he will force everyone to have either his name or his number (666) on their right hand or forehead in order to buy or sell anything.

I dont know what it stands for but it is the mark of the beast in the bible. It is satans mark that everyone will recieve in order to survive after the rapture. He is the scripture that talks about it

Revelation 13:16-18

16He also forced everyone, small and great, rich and poor, free and slave, to receive a mark on his right hand or on his forehead, 17so that no one could buy or sell unless he had the mark, which is the name of the beast or the number of his name.

18This calls for wisdom. If anyone has insight, let him calculate the number of the beast, for it is man's number. His number is 666.

Hope this helps

666 number referred to as the beast in Revelation Book of the Holy Bible. According to what I heard this number refers to the emperor Nero Cesar because his name comes up to this number in the Jewish tradition.

No one does. John used that number in the biblical Book of Revelations to name the "Beast". He was most probably speaking in political terms and in code. Herbrew letters have a numerical value as well as a phonetic one, so John was probably not suprising those of his readers who were "in the know". I have heard many suggestions as to whom the Beast might be, and I favor the ones that focus on John's contemporaries. The political climate at the time was volatile for the Jews and any number of political leaders (most likely Roman) could have been the culprit. Aleister Crowley liked to fancy himself in that role, but if you read him carefully you will see that he was being more than cryptic, he had a wicked sense of humor.

there is no meaning, its just a number. But if you mean the biblical since then it came from the bible, there are holy numbers like 111, 222, 333, and so forth, now the number 666 is the mark of the beast aka Satan.

King James Version of the bible:

Revelations Chapter 13

Verse 16: And he causeth all, both small and great, rich and poor, free and bond, to receive a mark in their right hand, or in their foreheads:

Verse 17: And that no man might buy or sell, save he that had the mark, or the name of the beast, or the number of his name.

Verse 18: Here is wisdom. Let him that hath understanding count the number of the beast: for it is the number of a man; and his number is Six hundred threescore and six.

Thanks,

It came from the book of Revelation in the Bible. It was the number appearing on a beast. Wikipedia does a good job of explaining it.
