Go see a Doctor, I had the same problem but didn't bother to go see a doctor, after a couple of years the red area got bigger and bigger.
I finally had to see a Doctor because the redness spread from my nose to the rest of my face.

The Medicine he gave me got rid of it but the doctor said it will comeback and to use the medicine when it comes back.

The medicine is called: Triamcinolone 5g
Farabi Base 5g (They mix both)
I got the medicine in Iran, so it may have a different name in your country. As soon as I used it the red area dissapeared the next day.

Also as the years have gone by I have noticed what makes the red area redder.

Your number 1 enemy is Sweets (Sugar), Fatty foods (If you eat a lot in a long period), Soaps (Stop rubbing soap all over your face it makes it worse),

Going back to sweets: Do not eat too many fruits, fruits are good but not too much, specially watermelon, other melons, Pomegranates,....

Cut on the Sodas or switch to Diet, don't put too much sugar in your coffee.

The area is red becuase it is infected and full of black heads. You need to get a good exfoliator and make sure you scrub around your nose. Try Benefit's Pineapple scrub. Pineapple has a special enzyme that eats away the dirt that causes blackheads. Make sure you wash with warm water to open your pores, then use the scrub, then rinse your face with cool water to close your pores. Keep it moisturized as well.

Try using a good quality face soap. I like Origins "Checks and Balances". My boyfriend likes it too. You can also try Clinique's thermal mask for minimizing pores. You just use it like twice a week and only where you need it. The heat makes your pores shrink and then you have less blackheads.

First of all you shouldn't use soap it drys the skin and stripe the face of nautral oils causing you to produce more oil. You want a good oil free cleanser and oil free moisturizer. You just might find the redness will go away. mary Kay makes some good prodcuts for oily skin.
