Of course. For the following obvious reasons:

1. Ethics (It would just feel imperative.)
2. Curiousity. (No one knows where the next adventure in one's life will come from. The rescued stranger could be a really good person who I'll form a life-long friendship with. The stranger could be a monstrous criminal I'll get to turn in. Either way...

Yes, I've done so.

Crappy swimmer, two little girls bobbing down a cold rain swollen creek. One holding tight to the other. I was only person in sight, there in the water. BAM. Felt both ordinary and yet surreal. It's a swimming area, but it was really too early in the year to be swimming.

Could have been impaled on a submerged branch, or just not up to the task physically. Stopped thinking when I saw they were in trouble and not just fooling around.

They said thanks and just bounced off like nothing happened, but really, I suppose nothing did.

However, they weren't adults and any danger to me was just a possibility not obvious and immediate, not like I had to kill a polar bear with a drinking straw or anything.

Truckdrivers do it on a on a daily basis foundation! we are completely conscious that the 80,000 (it incredibly is 80 THOUSAND) kilos we are on top of problems with is a rigidity to be respected. regrettably, the human beings who rigidity around autos are oblivious to the hazards! Truckdrivers might gladly "take a bullet" to maintain their load from being deadly to different motorists, and gain this on a daily basis!

it depends. if it were a child, i probably would. if it were an adult, i would have to assess the risk to myself first. i wouldn't just automatically do it. if i determined that the odds of my survival were low, no i wouldn't.
unless i were familiar with the subway trains in new york and knew that the was enough clearance under them, i wouldn't have jumped in to save that guy having the seizure.
