Should I get a water filter or buy bottled or is it safe right from the tap?

Drinking tap water anywhere is always a risk. Here's why>
A research study tested the tap water of all the major cities and found that 3/4 of the samples contained virulent bacteria. It's rife with all kinds of chemicals to kill the germs - chemicals like chlorine which are not good for human consumption (it's poisonous in large quantities). And some germs slip through. One of these, clostridium, a virulent form of one of the friendly bacteria we have in our colons, causes diarrhea and illness regularly in populations who drink tap water.
Water travels through miles of pipes under the streets and homes of the city. These pipes are not totally closed systems. Germs do seep in. Corrosion in pipes, in the holding tanks, dirt, insects, seepage from sewage and other pipes, all kinds of things do get into the water before you draw it out of the tap. There are studies that show drinking tap water increases the risk for kidney stones. If you have symptoms of kidney stones, one of the questions the doctors ask is "do you drink tap water?".
Tap water drinkers get sick from infections from bacteria or even occasionally, amoebic dysentery. It doen't always make the news unless it happens on a big scale. The home filters which are not powerful enough, and not changed often enough, do NOT screen out bacteria but only some of chemicals and some particulate matter.

The water in Katy is safe, but in the summer might not taste so great. One cool thing you'll find in Texas is the sign at most city limits stating the town's water quality.I'm not sure but I think Katy's is rated excellent.
