I researched this AMD Athlon 64 X2 5000+ Dual Core Processor and found out the clock speed was 2.6GHz but im not sure if it runs at 2.6 or 5.2 becasue it is dual core.

Can someone help me verify this? which one is it?

It runs at 2.6GHZ. Never add the two cpus together (that includes Intel cpus as well). It's according to the programs you run on how they use the cpus. Like most games only use one cpu, so there is no speed increase at all. If told to run on the 2nd cpu, and windows runs on 1st cpu, can gain some speed (maybe 10% according to the game).
It will never actually run double the speed of a 2.6GHz cpu. www.tomshardware.com for cpu benchmarks in various programs.

E6550. it is going to hold out magnificently and that i talk from adventure. AMD has yet to suitable their twin cores to compete with Core2 duo. In twin center section , C2Duo remains the king. yet nevertheless , you dont desire that lots means if your employing internet or gazing video clips, music. the only reason to get a core2duo is doing issues like dvd ripping, rendering and specifically gaming. TAKE AMD, with the money saved get an Ati x2600 professional PCI exhibit or atleast a 8500 GT. have faith me you wont sense sorry approximately it.

the old confusion ;)

there are 2 cores on the same die. the chip is clocked at 2.6GHz, so each of the cores is clocked at 2.6GHz (you may not multiply the clock speed).

simplyfied you can say you have 2 CPUs where each is clocked at the same speed.
