First of all, let me say up front that I'm a white guy, and I'm engaged to a wonderful woman who happens to be black. Therefore, we're living proof that the two races CAN coexist.
However, where your question is concerned, allow me to play the devil's advocate for a minute.
While there is a lot of white-on-black racism happening, it's important to note that there are groups like the NAACP that ensure that this bigotry is reported (and rightfully so) so that the guilty parties can be brought to justice.
Here's the catch: Whites don't have the NAACP. Therefore, black-on-white racism (which, let's be honest, is much more common) isn't reported nearly as often (unless people are killed). Interestingly enough, if whites tried to form a National Association for the Advancement of White People, it'd be considered racist.
Some people truly believe that it's impossible for blacks to be racist, given their history. I disagree. Anyone can be racist. We all have certain prejudicial feelings; it's part of our nature. It's just that with the history of black oppression by whites, it's harder to commonly accept the fact that blacks are capable of racism.
I don't think there should be any sort of racial swing, one way or the other. If blacks in Congress want a "black caucus," then whites in Congress should be allowed to form a "white caucus." If they can give out black scholarships, then they should give out scholarships for poor white kids, too. I'm all for equality. It's my true wish that these racial walls be broken down.
We should stop looking at people simply for the virtues of their skin color, and start looking at them for who they really are. Skin color shouldn't be a factor in deciding employment, scholarships, or school admission, going either way.
I think (and my fiancee agrees with me) that the NAACP should be disbanded, because so long as there exists a group that promotes disparity between the two races (and they do), then there always will BE disparity between the two races.
So therefore, you bring up a good question. I wish I had a better answer for you than what I came up with, but those are my feelings on the matter. Just remember that in your dealings with anyone, don't let skin color influence your decision or the way you choose to treat them.

Actually it's much worse than this Blacks are prejudice against all other races which makes the other races prejudice against Blacks. They reap their own reward, this is why most races when comparing themselves use the White race as the barometer for success and the Black race for failure. The problem is that anyone who shows racism towards Blacks kills off their career while when Blacks show it (even celebrities) the media won't dwell on it to kill off their career. Here's some proof of antisemitic Blacks and some of their choice words (link 1).
We hear Blacks make anti-White comments all the time on TV and many rap songs, Shaq made a comment about the first Chinese player multi-times, and where's Sharpton ("no justice, no peace" or the reality "no show") or Jesse Jackson? No where to be found.

I donn't approve of prejudice of any kind--and you aask a good question. Here's some of the reasons why black-on white prejudice isn't viewed as being important:
1) Historically and currently, the overwhelming majority of prejudice in our society is on the part of whites.
2) Black prejudice is rarely "effective"--because of the relative power of the groups, it does not translate into whites being denied jobs or education (except in rare cases)--as does prejudice on the part of whites.
3) While much of the prejudice some blacks express is real, they whole idea of "reverse prejudice" is somewhat discredited because white racists have tried to use it as a way of legitimating their own bigotry by calling any thing pro-African American "reverse discrimination" even when it isn't.
Finally, there's a feeling on the part of a lot of people (including many whites) that if the white bigots have to take a little of their own medicine, they asked for it (Obviously this creates the potential for what you--through no fault of your own, experienced).
ONe added note--bigotry is never justified--but in view f the treatement blacks have received, in their case a generalized mistrust and dislike of whites is at least understandable. Doesn't make it "right"--but its human nature to feel that way when you'e been mistreated.

I can side with you on that, but why have any prejudice? We need to have a United front at all times. No matter the race,WE are all Americans.Let all the evils of the past, stay there. My ancestors were from Ireland,Germany, and Native American, our roots are deep.So I know that leaving prejudice behind is all a matter of Loving each other. If not love than live and let live.Let it go, it is all the past.Stirring sheeit makes it stink all over again.......good question.

My daughter had a similar experience. In K and First Grade she was the only white kid in class and they were always calling her names, like "white and ugly," and she didn't understand why. She thought she really was ugly and for a while she wished she was black. I did my best to teach her that you should not be prejudiced, and she wanted to be a good girl, so she did her best to get along. But it did make her kind of sensitive on the subject of race. I remember the civil rights movement, so I understand the history of prejudice, but I don't understand why black parents are now bringing up their kids to hate white kids. It's really sad.
