I live in Slidell, La and was very fortunate- I only had minimal damage. My sister on the other hand was not so lucky- She lives in St. Bernard and is still rebuilding her home. It has been a very long 17 months for her family but think she is just finally starting to feel some relief. I would to hear your rebuilding stories and how has this natural disaster has effected you or your family.

I'm in Florida so I've got first hand knowledge of other hurricanes. Katrina did not affect my area, but just want to put my 2 cents worth in. Many prayers have been sent and are still being sent to Louisiana and Mississippi. Money has been sent to the area by myself and my friends - alot through Habitat for Humanity. Please prove me right that New Orleans can come back stronger and better! Southerners are quite resilient! Blessings to all in the area and to those that are trying to rebuild it!

How about asking all the people who have suffered from natural disasters how they are recovering. Many people lose there homes every year due to disasters and get no Federal aid. yet there still are people whom the government is paying for their housing from Katrina. My area was declared a Federal disaster in the last couple of weeks yet I get no help. I cannot even live in my home, yet know one cares how I am doing. THe government is providing no aid to me.

Not well, not well at all.
And, I was not anywhere near it... but watching that horror on CNN from Massachusetts. I cannot believe those people are still suffering and the place is a total mess. Why don't they just use the fed funds allocated and call in Halliburton...they seem to be able to take on Iraq after the bombings...why not here for our own people. They'll even contract for mercenaries with Blackwater to take care of all crime problems. Or are they just getting even more money for Iraq?
Kinda makes you wonder, huh?

My Mother evacuated Vinton(Rita) and came out to Ca.as soon as I could go get her.My story is funny,My Mom was oxygen depend and and they wanted her out quickly,so I called the Red Cross over here and ask for help. They told me to call there, and ask.Over there said over here.Back and forth. Then weeks after the storm was over the Red Cross over here was in trouble for mailing each other money from the Hurricane. They were from here--CALIFORNIA.Short story,I never donate to causes I am unsure of.Family and Church helped me relocate Mom for 6months, then she went home and passed away there.Hope your sister gets everything back to normal for her..Be Blessed.

I'm in a trailer school, but I'm not complaining. At least we don't have to use port-a-potties.
