Without thought there is nothing. If there is no mental activity then there is no creativity.

Creativity is one of the kinds of thinking that people can do. So is logical thinking. So is perceptual thinking. So is memory. So are feelings. In other words, creativity IS a form of thought. There can be no creativity without the mind doing its job.

How does the mind do this? Creativity is the mind associating images in a new way. For example, imagine Madonna in an igloo painting her teeth green with a crayon. Go ahead, you can do it. See? You did it. But that image is a brand new one for you. You created it in your mind. Good for you. That's how creativity works. By the way, this kind of creativity happens on the right side of the brain.

Everyone, you see, can be creative. Your brain has both a right side and a left side, and if you're healthy, both function normally. Highly creative people are experienced in making this happen on a regular basis, and they are good at throwing away the useless images and refining the ones they can use. Often that refinement requires the evaluation of the logical left side of the brain. Interesting, huh?
