How do you read a Minimum-Maximum Thermometer?

In the old style, there are small markers that are dragged along with the thermometer fluid and left behind when the fluid moves away and these mark the highest and lowest until they are shaken down.
In the new style, you push the Min and then the Max buttons and read the digital display :-)
