I was thinking about using Mobil 1 Synthetic Diesel Oil and Mobil 1 Synthetic ATF in my 1994 Chevrolet K3500 Turbo Diesel Truck. What are your opinions on synthetics? How much better are they than conventional fluids? Can they really mean the difference between towing just fine and having your transmission go out? Has anyone had any bad experiances with synthetics in their truck? Any reviews on these items (particularly Mobil 1 products) would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Synthetics hold up better under heat, flow better when cold, last four times as long without breaking down, protect better and reduce friction better. Yellow Cab in Manhattan started using Mobil 1 transmission fluid and their tranny failures dropped by 75%.
I've been using Mobil 1 oil since the 70s and have never had an engine wear out.

I think synthetic oils are fine as well as being more fuel effiecient and great if you do a lot of long distance driving racking up a lot of miles quick. If your going to extend the oil change intervals longer in between oil changes, other wise it's a waste of money in my opinion. Oil changes at manufactures recomended intervals just use good quality oil and change regular. Remember oil and filter changes is about the cheapest and most benificial thing you can do for your engine. I don't believe in leaving any oil in my engine longer than 4,000 miles. With that in mind you waisting money on a synthetic.
