I can never get 8 hours sleep at a time. The majority of time, I only sleep for 2 or 3 hours straight, then I'm awake for a couple of hours or so, then back to sleep again. I've tried taking Tylenol P.M.'s, only to get the same result. I don't drink alcohol, so please don't suggest having a drink before my first bedtime. I don't know why I can't sleep well. I was just wondering if anyone else has the same problem and what you do about it.

melatonin is the natural hormone/chemical that your brain produces when it becomes dark outside, it's just your body's way of preparing you for sleep, and this chemical makes you tired
... i find i get myself off of my normal schedule when my husband is out of town and i stay up late like right now, (it's 3:30 am in korea where im at) and then i usually take melatonin (as a suplement.. just 1 mg is enough) to get me back on schedule... good luck to you!

No to answer your question, It has to be 8 hours of uniterrupted sleep.
-Use the bed only for sleeping
-don't take any caffeine 4 hours before bedtime
-take a warm shower before bedtime
-soft music might also help
-don't be stressed when going to bed (write whatever is bothering you down in fifteen minutes and then go to sleep)
If this doesn't help your doctor may prescribe sleeping pills to you but I suggest that you try your best to get the eight hours by yourself because Sleeping pills tend to disrupt your sleeping pattern.
