I know they have the koruna or something, but I will only be in Bratislava for a day and then on to Vienna. So will I have to get some Koruna or will Euros suffice ?
thanks

I'm Slovakian and I can tell you that euros are not used yet, but when spending more than 50 euros in the supermarket or elsewhere they accept it. We should have euros in 2009! Now you have to use Slovak Crown (Koruna), for 1 euro you get about 35 crowns.

Some places will accept euro, but you're better off with SKK, or Slovak korunas (crowns). There are ATMs all over Bratislava, and the exchange rates aren't too bad. The value is pretty good if you're American, English, or western European... everything is far, far less expensive than in nearby Vienna, THAT's for sure. Bratislava gets overlooked because of Vienna, but Bratislava really is a charming place, with a lot to see and do. The food's great, too, if you know what to ask for... do a little research first, or ask a Slovak for a suggestion. I LOVED Slovak food. I could come up with a lot more suggestions but that wouldn't be answering your original question ;) All the same, enjoy yourself in Bratislava, and use the korunas--you'll run into fewer problems spending those than you would with euro.

You need Slovak koruna to pay in shops and restaurants. It might be that some businesses accept Euro, but it is much safer for you to have Slovak crowns with you.

You can also ask this question on this forum, where some UK citizens living in Slovakia might know more.
