Are only the gas units money savers? We have been told the electric ones don't save anything because of the amount of electric used when water is heated and that electric is also used when the unit is not. Any knowledge on the subject will be greatly appreacited

I would assume point of use heaters are similar to whole house tankless heaters and they gas ones are not the only money savers. Electric ones only use power when the water is flowing and being used. Generally, gas ones will be able to heat the water faster so you wait less time for the hot water to come out but they are more expensive to install.

Smartguy has this covered well.

I know these are excellent choices for lower volume use. But you would need to discuss your hot water usage with an installer to be sure you were selecting something that suits your usage needs, as well as your wallet.

I'm planning on getting the elctric tankless for my office. It sees daily handwashing, perhaps weekly dishwashing (by hand) and maybe a shower or two per month max. Absolutely ideal for electric tankless.

Not so sure I would consider this for my home with 5 occupants. (Two teenages and one early twenties who like those long showers.)
