Does anyone have any good tips or tricks for the game Connect 4?

Put your pieces where they could connect with your other pieces and block your opponents. You basically want to have a Connect4 possibility in two slots at once (like having three in a row on the bottom rank) or have a Connect4 possibility in two slots that are on top of another (example, three pieces in a row on the second and third ranks). By doing this, your opponent can only block the first Connect4 possibility, but not the second.

Control the center columns. Work to create a fork: where you have two sets of three-in-a-row so no matter what your opponent does you will win on the next move. There are handheld games available so you may practice.
