I got started with a network marketing group lately but everyone I try to add to my downline has no ambition beyond working a 9 to 5. They don't want to change their comfort level. How do you sell the idea of residual income with little work?

You need to know what motivates them. You can't just say to someone "if you do this... you will get this..." You need to show them what being results oriented can actually do for them. They need to see what their hardwork is going to get them. It can be a challenge, don't give up!

It's true, you cannot motivate people, you can only show them what you have and they need to "see" it. People have different hot buttons, some get into it for the money, some to meet people and make friends, some for recognition, others just want tax breaks.
If you can find their hot button, you can definately nurture that. I have found as a leader, that only a handful of people will be actual workers. It's all in the numbers, you just have to keep sifting through the numbers until you find one that works. The average is 20% of the group does 80% of the work. So you have to build that 20% up all the time by finding more and more people. The ones that come to the meetings, or phone meetings, and show some interest are the ones you focus your energy on.
If you find you are constantly struggling and getting frustrated with it, you might have to consider another company. Sometimes it's the product or the compensation plan and people are afraid to tell you their true feelings.
The company I am with now is the best I've ever seen for the amount of workers I have. They truly love the product and believe in it so they have no trouble selling it.

You cannot motivate people. It is within themselves. You need to find people who has strong dreams, vision. If not donot spend time on them.Otherwise it will be another job for you.
Most successful people had no money or little money by the way the fact is money is no big criteria or are not motivated by money. In the beggining it seems like a motivating factor. However the following things are essentials to be successful in any business.
