I read "'A Tree Grows in Brooklyn" when I was growing up in Brooklyn.
I loved the novel and I read it many times. I just identified with Francie and whatever she was going through.
I think I loved the other characters as well - her mother and her father.
I remember especially when Francie fell in love with a young man and went to bed with him. Then he disappeared from her life - it turned out to be a one night stand. Of course, Francie thought he was the love of her life and I remember the conversation she and her mother had about it. I just thought it was so moving and touching for mother and daughter to have this beautiful and honest talk on love.

I have a daughter whose favorite book this is. My own affection for it springs from its fine feeling for working-class life in early 20th century Brooklyn. Also from an undying affection for Francie Nolan, which translates into
a life-long love of Peggy Ann Garner, who together with James Dunne starred in Elia Kazan's first film. I am happy to report that Robert Altman's death resulted in the first video release of several of his movies, including A Wedding, starring Peggy Ann and 47 others. It was her last movie.

whilst i grew to become into given this e book lower back in severe college, i presumed, "guy, yet another boring novel, the place am i able to get the cliff notes?" yet whilst i genuinely began analyzing it, i could no longer placed it down. It made me giggle, it made me cry, no longer many books can do this to a individual those days. It grew to become into the only exciting e book I examine in all 4 years of highschool english classes, i'm satisfied that others get exhilaration from it as nicely.
