the swelling could be due to arthritis or other factors. also ankle swelling is a sign of water retention, kidney problems, and congestive heart trauma. I would suggest seeing a doctor to rule out these possible complications that could impact your health.

no i am sorry to tell it not normal, i have 2 swollen ankles and also thought it was from a fall I took a while back,
Swollen ankles are the result of dehydration in your body and a lack of potassium and magnesium. As matter a fact today i am having an ultra sound on my ankles, my doctor wants to rule out any blood clods or abnormality in my veins, the only way my swelling went down my doctor put on a watter pill also potassium and magnesium. they fell and look 100 % better, please check with your doctor soon,

No, it isn't normal, and spraining BOTH ankles at the same time is suspicious too. It suggests there was something else going on at the time, and it is long overdue time for you to see an orthopaedic specialist and get that "something" diagnosed. I don't know how old you are, but if you don't get something done, it sure is going to come back to haunt you somewhere on down the road.

You may have developed arthritis or tissue damage in your ankles. If they are not allowed to heal properly, you can continue to redamage the tissue. Then, yes, it will take even longer to heal.
Go to an orthopedic specialist to have your ankles checked out. If you have continually redamaged the tissue, you may have developed a chronic condition.

i hurt mine a few times playing basketball like 10 yrs ago and they still swell up , especially when its cold , so you probably have some nerve damage or arthritis has set in a little.

It could mean that your body is retaining water. My mom's feet did that and if you take water pills, then you will know for sure. But I would say for now, keep a cold ice patch on them and make sure to keep your feet elevated.
