If you want to take him swimming at a local pool make sure he has had at least one round of his shots and you might be able to go. I would check with the pool and see what their rules are. Also you will need a swim diaper and most don;t fit a little one that small. Also limit his time in the pool. It might feel warm to you but for a baby that small it is harder to regulate his body tempature. Just watch your baby and watch for signs he might be cold. Good luck.

No, it is never to early to take a baby swimming. I have taken both of my kids swimming when they are weeks old. They have been swimming for a long time inside you so they already know how. Just make sure you keep him warm and get the water out of the babies ears when you are done and I am sure you know this but don't let go of him ( don't put him in a raft or anything like that) just hold him, he will like it on him back. I loved swimming with my kids when they were babies it was relaxing for me and most babies are calm in the water after they get use to it so it is a nice time of quite. I hope you enjoy every moment with your little one it all go's so fast. If you still feel uncofortable with it ask your doctor.

babies are natural born swimmers but it depends...

swimming in you own blown up pool.... yes if the water temperature is just right..... take her in the late afternoon between 4pm - 6pm.. it should be fine then.

if swimming in a public pool / condo pool then a doctor suggests waiting until 6 months or older cos you may not be too sure how often the pool is cleaned, the amount of chorine is also not so good for baby... it's best to wait till 6 months and older and after her vaccinations.

don't wait too long though cos then babies will lose the tendency to swim and you may find difficulty in getting her to like the water.

have fun!

:)

4 weeks, wow I personally think its to early. But I guess as long as he's had his shots, and you can keep him warm and there is no chlorine in the pool go for it. He wouldn't really be swimming he cant even control his muscle movements. Sit in a warm bathtub with him instead. If he accidenlty swallows some of that water you have NO idea what is in the water. You do what your motherly instincts tell you to, personally I would not

Yes, if it's for more than 5-8 minutes. Especially if he's a preemie (don't know if he is, I'm just sayin'.). I teach swim lessons at the local YMCA and we have parent/child classes, some of which are teaching 6-month-olds. At the end of those 30-minutes classes they are shivering and have pale or blueish lips sometimes, and they are five months older than your child. I feel so sorry for them and wonder why their parents do that. I would DEFINITELY wait a while. Don't worry--he'll have plenty of time later.

all of my children were into the water within a week of birth, it was the best thing I could do for them. I owned a pool and for fear that they would drowned I made sure they were familiar with it. They do cry because they don't know whats going on but sooth them and it does help. All of my children are awesome swimmers now. I always thought it best to do so and many people as well deliver in water, so I cant see that it could harm them in any way.

That sounds a little young, the babys skin is thin and thats not good with chlorine in the pool, its best to wait until they are about 6 months old. By the way where do you live to be able to go swimmming? Its snowing here!

I had all mine at 8 weeks in water and I use to teach swimming lessons to two year olds and all did better that had been introduced to water early!!!! Just make sure it is a clean pool! Public pools I question clean!!!!!!!!! I see no harm, except this time a year it is so cold in most climates unless you are indoors and in a heated pool, or live in a tropical place!!!!!!!!

I would say it should be fine, my brother was 3 weeks old, afraid of water, and a swim instructor took him to the pool and took him in the water, he got use to it, and loved water afterwards. Some doctors say after 6 months but my doctor said its fine to take them in the pool and my daugther was 2 months when I asked. He just adviced me not to let her get cold and of course I never. Try it out, my baby loves the water, and enjoys the pool a lot.

I researched with my local swimming pool as to when to take my son in and they said 6 months. You may want to talk to your Dr to be sure.
