I guess my question would be, "how are you exfoliating your legs?" I find a lot of exfoliators available commercially aren't "gritty" enough. You may want to try something coarser (the Body Shop has an unscented salt scrub that is very coarse), and use it while your skin is dry (before you shower), or try a loofah sponge (replace it often, at least once every couple of months), and make sure you are spending enough time on each area (maybe 5-10 passes per area as opposed to 1 or 2). Exfoliate once or twice a week, and exfoliate BEFORE you shave or wax.

There's also something called Tend Skin available at Sephora that really helps with ingrown hairs.

As wierd as this sounds, stop shaving, exfoliating, and moisturizing your legs!

Well, not completely, but less often at least...

If you shave your legs every day, try cutting it down to once every 3-4 days, to give the hair a chance to grow back a little bit...if you shave your hair too often when it is too short it can cause ingrown hairs. The hair shouldn't be noticibly long after that period of time, and even if you are a little bit uncomfortable with it, wear pants on those days instead of skirts, dreses, or shorts.

Also, cut down exfoliating and moisutizing to once or twice a week... remember, too much of a good thing can be bad for you...

Also, do not exfoliate, shave, and mosturize your legs all at the same time...this could irritate them...and if you put on intense moisturizer right before or right after shaving or exfoliating, it could clog your pores...so try something like shaving and exfoliating in the morning, and moisturizer at night, or vice versa.

hope this helps!!

I'm surprised the men don't have better answers for you-they are the ones taught the golden rule of shaving... Maybe they forgot... Shave your legs in the direction your hair grows. If you can't figure this out at least only shave your hairs in ONE direction. It's tricky to do in the shower-take a bath. Use craploads of shaving cream lather and only use disposable razors for a max of 5 days. You want the blade to be sharp. Exfolliants are good. The best is an exfoliant and shaving cream all in one. There is a brand called skintimate. The scent rainlily is my fav. It works great. You don't have to use it everytime you shave though that will just aggravate your skin and make it overly sensitive. Other days use Golgate brand it's dirt cheap and makes great fluffy lather. .

Don't listen to the advice about waxing - it causes ingrowing hairs as well. Shaving, epilating, waxing, you name it, it causes ingrowing hair. Make sure you exfoliate regularly and try a product called Nad's ingrow solution. You can get it from Boots (on their online store as well), and it works brilliantly. Spray it on after shaving and it helps prevent ingrowing hairs - i use it on my armpits and bikini line and it is really really good.

Make sure that you don't use an electric razor, instead use one with a blade. As awful as it sounds, it actually shaves the top off and the hair is able to come through. Also try shaving daily if you aren't already. I know it is a pain but it should only take a couple of minutes in the shower once you get on a schedule. Hope it helps!

Waxing actually causes more ingrowing hairs too...
I would say to exfoliate well, with quite a coarse brush.

Make sure you exfoliate with something gritty, like a buffing cream. Also use a loofah mitt or sponge and rub it all over your legs in the shower in a circular motion. You can get loofah's with soap all in one for a sudsy sponge or a mitt that (you wear as a mitt) for easy handling. Finally, it may sound strange, but use hair conditioner on your legs in the shower than rinse and moisturize when you get out of the shower. The Key is to soften the hairs as well as keeping them off of your skin with loofah and exfoliant.

If you have the money, go in and have the hair lasered off. It never comes back and you don't have any hair to cause a problem. It worked for my sister (although obviously pretty expensive).

Also, if it isn't a lot of hair's and always the same ones you could try electrolosys on the offending hairs. It is cheaper then laser but the hair likewise does not come back. Some guys do this for ingrown hairs on their neck.

Use a loofah or something slightly rough to abrade the skin. It will remove the dead skin cells and pull up the ingrowing hairs.

I believe there is a good moisturising cream on the market that reduces hair growth. I've heard it's very good. Just can't remember the name of it but you can get it from Boots and the like.
