First and for most, get a virus protection application. AVG is free, get Ad-Aware, also free. Then a firewall, sygate a has a free version as well. Protect your computer. Secondly, your computer will start to run slowly and freeze more often. It may even resart or just close applications for no reason. If your computer is acting strangley in any way it could have spyware or a virus.
I cannot stress enough, do not let you computer be unprotected. I am not saying you not already doing this. I just want to make sure you have these safe measures installed.

It depends.
Some viruses give obvious hints: files disappear, options on some programs are disabled, windows pop up from nowhere. But others are silent, like keyloggers (read all you type, then send away to somewhere), and zombies (do remote-controlled dirty work, without knowledge of the user).
Best way to know is: get an antivirus program, install and run it; the antivirus will show you, and, in most cases, will be able to kill the virus.

What your computer does with a virus would highly depend on the kind/type of virus it has. Chances are if it's doing something out of the ordinary. It's got some kind of bug in it.

If your computer has slowed down a fair amount since you got it, chances are you have a virus, or viruses. If you are having trouble getting onto certain sites, or if things just do not work very smoothly.
