It depend are you checking it on web or on an emailer software.
the first one is easy, the 2nd one need you to configure the necessary emailer before it will work.

It depends on your email provider.
If you use webmail then yes, you can read from anywhere. That includes pure web-based email like yahoo and hotmail as well as ISPs that have a working web gateway to their mail servers.
If you don't use webmail or your provider doesn't offer webmail then you'll have to configure your friend's outlook / outlook express / evolution / whatever email client ... and it may or may not work. If your ISP allows your mail to be delivered to someone that is not on their network you'll be able to read email. If they don't you won' be able to read email. Most (imho) allow you to connect from outside their network. So you'll probably be lucky but you may not be. Try it! As long as your friend doesn't mind you messing with their Outlook Express configuration.
As for sending email, most ISPs don't allow you to connect to send email from another ISP's network. So for *most* email accounts you will not be able to send email from your home ISP. You may be one of the lucky ones who can send like that.
So, can't give a categorical answer. You'll probably be able to read your mail and probably won't be able to send email.

Yes you can.. I have DSL and I can go to my husbands computer and get my email. just put in ;your own email address when you log in..

what he said.....if you have yahoo you can check from anywhere by going to their home page www.yahoo.com if you have roadrunner email - go to www.tampabay.rr.com - if you have earthlink or some other email am not sure...there is a site that allows anyone to check their email but can't remember the name of it.
