I've not seen the show you're talking about, BUT...
if it the flag is on the arm of the right arm of the jacket, it is shown "flying backwards" because it is supposed to represent that American forces are always moving forward and not retreating. Therefore, the forward movement is indicated by the wind taking it "backwards". It is the same as for U.S. Military uniforms.
Hope this is what you are talking about.

Give Chaney the Best Answer, because he is right on the money. The flag is backwards because the military moves forward and does not retreat. The flag is also on airplanes and is shown the same way.
