sweet ivy lyn is talking out of her hind quarters!

I'm a Westerner, living in Cairo these past six months. Being an expat here is not without its issues, but in the tourist areas, I feel the safest. The Egyptian government is well aware of where the money comes from, and tourists are well-looked after. I'm still hitting the tourist sites, there's so much here to see. And as I've picked up an antipathy for things Pharaonic from my fellow Cairenes, I mostly visit old mosques and mausoleums and such in Islamic Cairo (although I have just about had my fill of Mameluke architecture :).

Egypt's economy is in a shambles, it's going through a substantive downtick in terms of political reform (when the current president's son has been all but crowned the next President-for-life, I'm not sure you can call yourself a democracy anymore), and it's still struggling with the remnants of pan-Arabism and coming to terms with modernity. But the Egyptian people are, for the most part, warm and friendly, with a great love of talking (oh my goodness yes, and endlessly) and laughter and fun.

I'm just still not sure if/when they sleep.

Definitely worth a visit.

well i think that it is an alright country. although i would have to say that the government is corrupt considering all the poverty that is in egypt. my husband is tunisian and when you look at the difference just in health care even the lower class tunisians get decent health care. i know many egyptians who have had it rough. well it is very over populated as well. but on a possitive side it is a muslim country. it is a culturally rich country. has one of the 7 wonders of the world. good food. land any where in the world is good it is just about the people weather they are good or not. lol in egypt there is this guy who rides around alexandria in the night with his pet lion. i like the music. ehab tawfeek is a wonderful singer. all and all an alright place to be. (as long as you have money) but this applies for any where.
