Okay so I've been lying in bed awake ALL night, from around 11pm when I went to bed till 8am, not even like two minutes of sleep. So I just finally got up and decided to stay up. But why the hell can't I fall asleep, I mean I'm really tired and everything but my body just doesn't want to fall asleep. Please help.

It's an old remedy but science says there is merit to it - a glass of warm milk will help you to fall asleep. In heating the milk it produces some chemical change that works to relax your body. I don't pretend to understand it, but that's what they say.

Try reading in bed. Prop up your pillow and get comfortable and get a good book and snuggle in. Don't get up and move to a chair - stay in the bed. You may find that you are getting relaxed and you suddenly have the desire to turn off the light and slide down.

Old acting exercise - lie there and listen to your body breathing for a while. Then focus on your feet - just from the ankle down - and relax your feet. Be conscious of your feet, pay attention to your feet, until they are well and truly relaxed. Then your lower leg, from the knee down - relax everything there. Then your thighs on down to your feet. Then your waist - keep slowly moving through your whole body, focusing on each section, relaxing, relaxing, relaxing. You may be asleep before you finish.

At least you'll be relaxed.

Sweet dreams.

Try taking some melatonin. It's the hormone that your body releases that makes you feel sleepy and tells your body it's time to go to bed. It is relatively inexpensive and available at any well-stocked drug store. Airplane pilots and stewardesses have been using it for years to help them fall asleep when they have bad jet lag. It has no addictive properties, so long as you don't use it for more than a month or so consecutively. Also, try not going to bed around 11. Take a melatonin around 11, and you should be feeling nice and sleepy around 12 or 12:30. Then it's time for bed!
Good luck!

1) Possibly just a dream (I'm not saying it wasn't real, just listing possibilities). 2) It was not a ghost. Dead people do not walk the earth. Period. 3) It could have been a spirit. If it was, it was probably an evil spirit, since you felt frightened and evil spirits/demons do manifest themselves as angels do. Evil spirits manifest themselves as ghosts, and are behind much of the "magic and sorcery" in this world. 4) Question...I don't know your beliefs, but are you a Christian? What happened after you prayed to God? Hmmm....well, believing in God doesn't equal being a Christian, and being a Christian doesn't always equal being a true follower of Jesus. But it does sound like God protected you against this "force of evil." He has the power over demons, which do exist. One time my mother, without knowing what it truly was, brought a trinket from West Africa which had a demonic spirit with it, and we had an evil spirit in our house for years without realizing it. I saw an evil spirit twice and my family thought I was dreaming, though I knew I wasn't. My sister had terrible nightmares, and my Mom began seeing and feeling something too, so eventually my parents figured out what happened and buried the trinket, and once it was out of the house the spirit left. Even though our family is Christian, it didn't keep the manifested spirit form away when we messed with the spirit world, even by accident. You probably don't have some trinket in your house with a demonic spirit attached to it, So, I don't know what you saw and why, but I have no reason nor proof to doubt you.

Your body will eventually let you fall asleep. Don't try to make up by taking naps during the day...keep to the same schedule and eventually a more regular sleep pattern will resume. Sleep loves cold...try cooling down your house/apartment and use blankets. Try some decaf tea before bed, or read a book.

I know the feeling man, and it's annoying like crap, lol. Sometimes, trying to go to sleep at the same time every night helps, and/or doing alot of excercise or activities so your body will let you sleep might help. You also might not be able to sleep due to mental frustration of some kind, like an emotional problems, so try to clear your mind and set things straight. I would suggest, more than anything, more excercise or moving though. Good luck with that.

cut back (or cut out) caffeine and other stimulants (including alcohol - and, yes, that is a stimulant) for a couple of days. also, go out today and get at least 45 minutes of strenuous exercise - running, brisk walking, climbing stairs, moving furniture or boxes, hiking trails, anything that gets your blood pumping and causes you to break a sweat.

also, you could try breathing exercises. lie down or recline in a dimly lit room with no distractions (no TV, radio only if on a classical or jazz station where there are no vocals). breathing only through the nose, breathe in deeply to the count of 8; hold for a count of 4; breathe out to the count of 8, or slower if you can manage it. focus on counting - this way, your brain cannot be scattered over stressfull issues (if you have any) and will finally relax. do this as long as you can, or until you fall asleep.

Honey it sounds like your sleep pattern is all messed up and you need to see your doctor to tell him what's going on and he can possibly give you something to help you rest. I'm the same way on weekends because i work 3rd shift therefore i can't go to sleep because my body is saying that I'm supposed to be up. So i know how you feel. Good Luck!
