I bought a dvd burner a year ago and up until about 2 months ago it was burning just fine. It will read all types of disks but will not burn dvds or cds now. Any suggestions? Oh, and my device manager says that the device is working fine.

Agree with sir - if you're having errors during the burn process or the verify never ends - it's probably shot. This is common. I've had it happen to four burners including two HPs, and even had drives sent from HP that were bad. People had returned them under warranty and HP support tested them, but only checked that they'd read, and sent them out to others as good drives.

However, if you're not getting any errors at all during the burn process, and it's jsut that your drive is not showing as a writer then there are a few things to try - at least on XP.

1) Go to Control Panel, Administrative Tools, Services then look for the IMAPI CD-Burning Com Service and make sure that it isn't disabled. It should be on manual or automatic. While you're there, look for any CD related services that your software may have installed and make sure they aren't disabled. I have "InCD Helper" in mine.

2) If that doesn't help, read this article on the Microsoft Site and follow its directions if appropriate: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/316529/

Its done for..and you might want to check and see if its getting proper voltages from the power supply. Possibly the reason it didn't last very long and very important for other computer parts.

Was this a sony? Go with Plextor next time.

nicely, that would desire to make experience, does not it. confident, they do. besides the undeniable fact that, while you're uncertain with something, look into it, do study. while you're wanting to purchase a force, ask the worker for help.
