I know you are not growing them at the moment, but if you do in the spring/summer the female flowers have a small round globule behind the yellow flower,the males have just a small stem. The males should be removed otherwise the cucumbers are bitter. You should also grow them in a greenhouse that is shaded.

The plant has both male and woman plant life and the female plant life provide upward push to the cucumbers. you may help pollination and improve the fruit count number by technique of creating use of a cotton bud to move pollen from the male plant life onto the centre of the female plant life. the female plant life widespread from the male plant life because the ladies have a tiny cucumber at their base.

I am sorry I forgotten but I realize this is a sensible question and many years ago I grew cucumber plants and was assisted by a neighbour who explained that male flowers needed to be removed
