I've noticed recently (when I installed a new heater switch) that sometimes the heater will not work. I have to pop the hood and tap on the heater fan housing (on the passenger side against the firewall). usually it starts right up. recently I installed a new sony stereo head unit. I waited to install the dash kit and when i was using the unit without the dash kit the heater was working as before. Now I installed the dash kit, and the heater still works exactly as before but it cuts off in about 5-10 seconds. I can tap the housing and it comes back on but, but it still cuts back off in about 10 seconds. is it a ground or something...and what do I do to fix it? PLEASE HELP! I need my heater cuz i currently have a broken window!!! IT'S WINTER!!!!!!

if you tap on the housing and it start to work, replace the fan motor. the electrical parts inside the fan motor is worn out.

Sounds like a loose ground. I just hope its a loose wire and not something inside the heater motor in which case you'll have to pull it out.

You have interrupted a ground to your heater motor...Reverse the dash installation..inspect at every step..You will find it and save big bucks over a pro...
Good Luck

You just answered your own question.
The blower motor has only a power wire to it, and uses the mounting screws as ground.
Actualy, I think only one of the screws has a ground strap on it to the body of the truck

Check your thermostat to see if it's sticking and not allowing the water change over from the radiator to the motor.
