some cd players won't read CD-Rs or CD-RWs only the newer ones will. computers will read anything on a disc if its readable but cd players are REALLY picky

You will not be able to play the CD on a domestic CD player until the CD is "finalized". What burner programme are you using? Look in the programme's help files for any info. on finalizing a CD.
Article on finalizing here: http://burks.brighton.ac.uk/burks/pcinfo/hardware/cdrfaq.htm#S2-19
Quote: CD recorders are the only devices that know to look at the PMA, which is why you can't see data in an open session on a standard playback device. CD players won't find any audio tracks, and CD-ROM drives won't see a data track. When the session is finalized, the TOC is written in the lead-in area, enabling other devices to recognize the disc. Im no computer expert but I have done that before and thought it may be one of two things - you may have a cd player which does not play CD-Rs (more expensive ones dont seem to play them like some sony unless specified), so you could buy a cheaper cd player. Or is it possible you copied MP3 files and didnt make them back into music files for your cd? Then they would play on a pc but not in a stereo as the pc has the technology to decompress them. Sorry if any of that is teaching you granny tosuck eggs" but worth a suggestion I thought as I didnt know the difference til my fella told me. Good luck.

It's your cd player. The newer ones will play burned cd's.

Are we talking about music CD's? Are you sure you haven't recorded them in MP3 format? I have done this and they only play on the computer. You will have to re-record them in a different format.

my cd player won't play them either - i think they have something programmed into them to stop re-writted cds being played. maybe.

it depends on the speed you burn it at! Try 32x (4800 kb/s) this speed works on most of my Cds!! Hope this helps!
