First claim asylum. They'll give you all the social welfare that you'll need in order to be able to afford that corner shop.

I would give it a try for 6 months at least. If it doesn't work, you can always go back to australia, but if you go back right away, you may never get another opportunity like this.

I have friends from high school and college scattered all over the country. We set up a private forum on the internet where we can keep in touch, and its not exactly the same but it does help, I talk everyday with people I haven't seen in person in years.

The internet is the way to go, that way you're not limiting yourself to a small catchment area.

I found one of the best ways to sell things is by registering with eBay. Now I'd like to point out that I'm not employed by eBay to advertise their service (I wouldn't be surprised if other people have similar experience with other sites), I used to work for a mail order company that was a Power Seller on eBay, so I saw first hand the effect these sites had on our sales.

The company I worked for sold computer & office supplies, like blank media, paper, ink cartridges etc. We tried different methods of marketing, we advertised in magazines and we also had a large stand at computer fairs (we didn't have a shop that customers could visit as that would have greatly increased our overhead and would have made it difficult to offer the low prices we had).

Now you may think this is an exageration, but I'd say that 98% of our sales came via eBay, with many customers later contacting us direct for future purchases. In fact, after advertising in a magazine, we only had two orders come in via the advert.

Although the quality of your products and your own business acumen will determine how successful you are, it's interesting to note that the owner of the company I worked for started out when he was just 18, selling software he stored in his dad's garage. Five years later he had a large warehouse, was importing cargo containers of his own brand of ink cartridges, and had already made his first million.

I have 2 friends that did this - here's their
First friend decided he would go to Australia for 12 months to 'try it' (he was on his own, no close family, no job etc etc etc. He was constantly emailling for the first 6 months about how hard it was and how unhappy he was. However he got a flat, job and settle in and he's been there for 10 years. He is so glad he did it and has no regrets at all!
Second friend - more like yourself was born in UK but moved to Australia when she was 2. Decided to come back to the UK and again tried for 1 year. She and her family came back to UK and they left after 6 months - she stayed. At first she hated it but persevered and gave it time. NOW she's married with kids and is perfectly happy with her choices and been here for 5 years.
As for me I'd like to say I'd like to try Australia like my pal for a year and then decide.
Do what feels right to you!!!
Good luck with your BIG decision.

I'd go back to Australia myself - nice roomy country and much better weather. That and your mates are there.

But then, in your case, it depends on what you want to do for a living and what the employment market is like where you are.
That would be the 1st thing to consider and then think about your mates.

mmmm whats your business/plans for your future and whats stopping you putting then into action in Australia. If i were you i'd stay there. Family, friends, better weather, lovely scenery (yeah we have some nice places but the grass is always greener).

Where is it cheaper to live?
