have forgotten to flush and maybe got up in the middle of the night and added more. I don't remember really. Anyway, I flushed it and it came all the way up but didn't overrun...but a little more and it would have. I fished out the toilet paper and bailed out most of the water. I looked into the tank and the water is there and it looks ok. I want to try to flush it again now that I did all this but scared
that it will overflow and not stop and I wouldn't know what to do.
I have a plunger which I used after I got everything out. I'm trying to get up the courage to flush it again and see what happens. Does anyone have any advice before I do this. I REALLY don't want it to overflow :( Thanks for any help.

Hi Firewind,

If the water has returned to normal level you are safe to flush. Toilets are designed so they will not overflow in a single flush. There is enough space in the bowl to accommodate one tank of water.

Go ahead - you will be O.K.

If it were me I would err on the edge of caution. Take the top off the toilet tank and make sure you recognize which is the part that goes up to the top when the filling stops (typically the rod that supports the float but in some new ones the rod that goes along the flush valve). Also make sure you know where the water shutoff valve is and twist it a speck to make sure it is not stuck.

You could also squirt some shampoo into the bowl as an aid to dissolving what ever is in there as a clog.

Now when you flush, if it looks like it will overflow grab that part which stops filling and raise it to stop the inflow. Then reach down and shut off the shutoff valve.

Then get up your courage, get the plunger in hand and flush. Good luck.

If you got most of the paper out and the water level has returned to normal, go ahead and flush. Just stand by with the plunger in case. But, it shouldn't overflow now. The paper should be pretty broken down to be able to go through the lines......WOW, how much paper did ya use?? LOL

No sweat. Just put the plunger in the toilet and flush. When you flush start plunging away. You will be fine. Now if you really scared turn the water off under your toilet bowl. And then do this process.

If you have a plunger, use it first to make sure there isn't any clogging the hole way down. If you don't have a plunger, go ahead and flush, just be ready to turn off the water usually located on the wall down by the toilet. This should keep if from overflowing.

Good Luck!

Go ahead and flush it. After you get though that, you may want to seek some sort of mental health agency. It seems that you may have some underlying problems that need attention.
