I don't believe hell is located in the center of the earth. In that same respect, heaven would be in the clouds. I don't believe that either. I think we look to the sun, the sky for hope and like to think of our loved ones as looking "down" on us. In the same respect, we look at the ground and imagine that satan and his followers are contained in some kind of "dungeon". If we dug a hole right to the core of the earth, I don't think we'd find satan there. As well, we can't see God and the heavens in the clouds when we travel in a plane :) Both God and satan are everywhere all at once.

Take a look around and think about what you see -- robbery, murder, wars, corruption, starving people, fortunes amassed by people who don't care, destruction of the planet for selfish reasons -- and tell me its not Hell!

yeah, sort of.... people were aware of volcanic activity but could not explain it when those types of beilefs were being formed.
