engine soon light has come on. It's a 2003 Saturn Vue & just turned over 60k miles. The manual states that if this light is on constant it could be something that needs serviced or it's an emmissions problem. Gas cap is on tight although I did just fill up with gas 2 days ago & it said it could be a result of cheap gas that thislight comes on although I don't notice that it's running bad. It said it could turn off automatically if it's one of these things but so far driving today that hasn't happened. Any suggestions?

The service I had done last week had nothing to do with the engine or emmissions? I don't think they are related?

When you took it to the service shop more than likely the shop did not reset the computer after servicing.Resetting the computer will remove all the service codes that make your check engine light come on.You can reset the computer in your own driveway simply.First unhook one of the battery cables, let the vehicle sit for about 15-20 mins.rehook up the battery cable and take your car for a drive.Your check engine light will have shut off and now you have reset the computer.Good luck.Best bet it to unhook the negative side cable when doing this.

It is highly unlikely anything involved with the service you had done on your vehicle would cause the check engine light to come on. People are always looking to blame the mechanic for everything that happens to a car for any period of time after even the most mundane service is performed but in my experience that is usually not the case.

The check engine light comes on because a fault has been detected by the engines computer that might effect emissions. There are hundreds of different fault codes, each pointing to different potential problems. The only thing to do is take it in to have the computer scanned and the problem diagnosed if necessary.

the best thing to do is take it to a technician and he will hook up a scan tool to your car and see why kind of trouble code your car have. this service engine soon light that come on indicate the computer is sensing something is wrong with the engine or transmisison. some time it can be a simple wire that was accidently disconnected

Take it back to the dealer that performed the service. They did something wrong, or ignored a code stored in the computer.
