I think they look sharp and clever. yeah their senses are really sharp.

Do you think a husky makes a good pet? I think the other one that makes a good pet is the dog with all wrinkles on his face looks rather ugly like a bulldog but it's not as aggressive like a bulldog..i don't even know the name of it.

Oh one more thing, can they withstand hot weather, or are they just good for cold snowy climates?

Why do you need more time and energy when dealing with husky as compared to other breeds of dogs?

2007-01-30 04:44:46 · update #3

You know why i said Sharpei? My old neighbor used to have them. I heard it's easy going personality type and very very clever(great for guarding homes) and low maintenance and definitely can't judge this dog by it's cover...

Chinese Sharpei. Its actually the chinese equivelant to the us pit bull, Japanese Akita, german rottweiller. It has the purple tongue just as the chow. It is a fighting breed. A gaurd breed. Not as hyper as the bulldogs or bully breeds.

Huskies are a handful. Its not that their senses are so heightened its that they didn't learn the first time its the washer spinning. They think they hear something new but just didn't remember. They are not a breed for the first dog. I would suggest the sharpei over a husky.

I think a Husky makes a great Pet for the RIGHT owner. I have had two Huskies, one very elderly that I just lost last week, and a youngster about two years old I adopted from a family who had too much with the dog and the children. .
First off, you need to be prepared for A LOT of work. They are great dogs, however they require much in the way of attention. They need to be trained properly or you could possibly wind up with a crazy wild hyper dog. I am not saying they are all that way, but you need to be sure you train them and keep them active. Lots of walks or open space to run and play. They are extremely intelligent and vocal, they will whine and "talk" to you constantly. They also require much in the way of grooming. if it is warm outside it is a good idea to have them clipped or groomed. You should brush them daily to keep their coat neat because they SHED!!!! Any dog is a great dog for the correct person, you are the one that needs to decide if the amount of work required is worth it to you.
As far as Shar-peis go I don't know much about them except that they can be extremely protective of their people. I have yet to meet on I liked that wasn't a puppy. I think again it is a case of the RIGHT person for the dog. Please before you purchase any dog do more research or volunteer to help out at rescues for the types of breeds you are considering. Once you have a better understanding of the needs of the dog you can better make an intelligent decision. When in doubt call or e-mail any breeder and ask lots of questions. Any self respecting breeder should help you make an informed choice. Good Luck in your search. I hope this helped a bit.

I have owned 2 huskies in the past and both of which LOVED to run. They are runners and diggers. Unless you live on a farm I don't recommend getting one. They are wonderful friendly, loving dogs but are very active. That is why they are used for dog sledding. Unless you have an active lifestyle and are a runner yourself it probably isn't such a good idea. The other dog your talking about is called a pug. Don't know nothing about them other then what they are. The huskies do shed a lot in warmer climates. I live in Minnesota which the weather is always funny here and my husky shed like crazy and always panted. I think they do much better in colder climates.

One of my nephews used to have a husky. And he was a very sweet dog, most of the time. But he did need a way to get cool during the summers. Huskies are dogs that need to be well trained, but they are good dogs.

The wrinkly dog you're thinking of is probably a pug. I've never had one or met one, but our vet has one of the exam rooms decorated with pictures of them. And that dog looked like she was enjoying posing for the camera!

yes, if you are strong, have lots of energy ^_^, and lots of room for them to run, and run, and then run some more! they also need LOTS of toys. just make sure you plan what you are going to do with the dog when you go somewhere. many huskies get separation anxiety and have tendancies to destroy things. a crate, bed, and some toys, it would also be a good idea to take the dog on a long walk before you go anywhere, to get rid of extra energy. Huskies are great dogs with proper training.
Depending on where you live and how hot it gets, huskies like most dog can overheat and get heatstroke. i have an outdoor dog myself. on hot summer days, i soak her with cold water. or you could consider shaving.

good luck!

Huskies make wonderful pets. I have had one before. But, I would only recommend them to someone who has a lot of time, energy, and love. They are very time, attention, and energy demanding. In reference to your warm climate question, they prefer the cold, but if they are raised in a warm climate from a young age, they will grow up knowing no difference.

It depends on your lifestyle. Huskies need contant attention and are very needy. They also like to re-landscape your yard (digging)

I'm not sure what dog is with the wrinkled face..maybe a Shar pei? Shar Pei's are not usually good with other animals or small children.

Huskies are GREAT dogs! Just take a lot at my lil one on my 360 account. They are VERY active and need lots of attention though...and somewhat frustrating to train.

Huskies make great pets. They're very good with the family. Yet, they're very protective of their property. Beautiful dogs.

they cant really do their best in hot weather, and they do good in the cold. i lived in alaska for 13 years and we had some huskies. they are very clever and they are so smart if you train them right they will do anything. they also will latch on to you and protect you no matter what if you show them respect and train them well.
