I work in MD and my W2 shows my local taxes were paid to Adams County, but I live in Hanover Boro, York County. What do I need to do? How do I fix this?

call your employer... its their job to correct the error... since it was them who screwed up....they will issue you a corrected W2... beleive me its the law they have to... unless you game them a W9 that had that information on it... If they wont fix it... just call you boro and find out what agency collect the local tax for them and get the number... call them and they can correct the issue... for you... its to their best interest to get it corrected because they will be getting the money...

When you file your local taxes with PA, you will just show that you paid the local taxes to MD. They transfer the tax payment for you. They do this so that your employer does not have to set up tons of different municipalities for all of its employees to pay taxes into on each pay check.

There's nothing to "fix". I'm from Downingtown, PA, and I always get a form from Berkheimer to figure my local taxes, regardless of what township or municipality it's marked as withheld for.
As a Pa. resident, your employer should be paying your withholding to the state of Pa.....Adams county may just be like a default on your paystub.
