Ok, here's the deal. I'm 15 years old and i have mixed feelings about drinking (as in alcohol). I'm a christian and so i've been taught that drinking is wrong. but nowhere in the bible does it say that. it just says not to get drunk. either way it's still illegal for me to drink because i'm underage. my parents drink a little bit. you know a glass of wine occasionally when they get home from work, or a beer with grandpa and the uncles over thanksgiving weekend. sometimes when my family is with my grandparents and we have a toast or something on special occasions, they pour me and my brother(17) and sister (19) a glass of champaigne or wine too. i don't prefer the taste, but i drink a little bit anyway. the adults (my parents and grandparents) told us that as long as we were with them drinking a little wine we were okay, but to never do it anywhere where they aren't around (i haven't and i never will). but is it still okay when i'm with them. is it still a sin or "illegal". please help!

First off, when it comes to legality in any situation its best to consult the actual laws you are governed by. Sure, Yahoo Answers is a good service, but if you are very concerned you ought to consult your state and local laws. I am going to assume you are an American, so the legal drinking age in your state is 21. Many states, however, have differing laws when it comes to consumption in a family setting. Again, I'd suggest consulting a good source of applicable legal information.

As for whether or not drinking is a "sin" is entirely up to your own beliefs. If you were a follower of certain religions, such as Islam, you would consider drinking alcoholic beverages a sin on any level. You say you are a Christian, and there is nothing inherantly un-Christian about drinking. Every branch I've ever encountered is against abusive consumption of alcohol, of course. I have known plenty of good, pious Christian people who drink, some who are underage. An argument can be made as to whether or not a christian is obligated to follow civil law, but thats another discussion. Basically you need to cultivate good values for yourself and live by them.

As for declining a drink, there is nothing wrong with that. It is not rude at all to say "no thanks" or substitute a non-alcoholic beverage in a toast. Most likely people will respect your decision. Regardless, you should never feel pressured into consuming alcohol or any other drug. Feel free to say no. Don't do things you aren't comfortable doing.

I wouldnt say its a sin unless you get drunk and break a comandment or law. If your parents say its okay depending on the state thats concidered legal as long as they are with you. In Wisconsin you can go to the bar with your parents and they can legally order you a drink. I would continue to pray about it God will show you the right path. If you feel comfortable about drinking than a little cant hurt, of course alwasy wiser to do it around the parents if they have given permission. I waited until i was 21, yes the occational wine cooler was acceptible but i refused the drinking parties, just not who i was or what i believed. I hoped this helped in someway. Take care.

i do no longer drink underage yet i think of the government could exchange something the two the eating age or the age to flow into the army because of the fact how come an 18 year previous youngster can flow into the army yet cant have a undergo after he basically watched somebody get shot? So i think of i might exchange the age to 21 to have the skill to flow into the army.

well, technically it is... But, if you are in complete control of yourself and still only have that sip you should be fine. If you really don't feel comfortable, don't drink it.
