Not likely, Most people with bipolar disorder suffer from severe mood swings, could you imagine being pulled over by an officer who seemed nice then all of a sudden started yelling at you for no apparent reason. As for the drug test that was already mentioned here, they only test for illegal drugs, i have a friend who has epilepsy and takes medication everyday and she had no problems becoming a cop.

You will have to check with your local police department to find out what the requirements are. My youngest step son is bipolar and I know because of the medications that he is on, he will not be able to get a driver's license.

I doubt that it's possible, even if medications are fully effective. For some reason it seems that are biopolar people become reluctant to take their medication and will stop, without telling anyone. I have personally been in contact with many people afflicted with this problem and once off the medication, their thinking processes and behavior often becomes erratic and totally unpredictable.

It all depends on the department. I applied for an officer position in my city and passed all of the tests- written, drug, health, etc. etc. When it came to the mental health portion, my application was rejected on the basis that I had suffered from depression in the past.
You should ask the powers that be what their stance is on things such as that.
Good luck!

Most Departments these days, have prospective recruits take a pyscological test. Usually they will catch comethign like that, and regard it to be a risk. But you do get a chance to explain yourself during the oral interview portion.

sure you can, as long as your taking your medication, and your ok with medications, then I don't see why you can't become a police officer.
