No you dont have to lay in a different position for sex unless you are uncomfortable. Then you may want to try laying on your side. A lot of pregnant women are more comfortable on top! Do whats most comfortable for YOU. Good Luck!

Hi Kandie,
I don't know who told you that you could/should not sleep on your back but that is ridiculous. You can sleep in any position that is comfortable for you until it is no longer comfortable, then find another.
"Mother Nature" is not so stupid as to have designed a system whereby a woman could do damage to her baby by sleeping in the wrong position! Think about it....it does not make ANY sense.
It is true that towards the end of your pregnancy lying on your back will eventually start to reduce the amount of blood flow to the baby but in what position do you always see laboring mothers? That is right, on their backs.
You are not stupid, neither is the pregnant body. When a position is no longer comfortable it is time to try another. You can NOT hurt your baby by the position you lie in. That is utter nonsense.
Ask your doctor, she will tell you the same thing.
Enjoy your pregnancy and stop worrying!
Blessings
Lady T~

They say that, but Im 32 weeks pregnant with my 4th baby and I sleep on my back alot. Ihave during all of my pregnancies. I havent died yet. They say left side is the best, but my hips kill me, even while using pillows between my legs. Its very uncomfortable. I lay on my back, and sometimes I will just slighty prop myself up in bed so that there is not as much pressure. Same for sex. Laying on your back for sex for a little while isnt going to hurt anything at all. However you are comfortable.

Okay, you may laugh at me, but I never even knew that I wasn't supposed to sleep on my back when pregnant. I slept whatever way was comfortable and had 4 full term healthy babies. My sister is in her very last part of nursing school and just told me this the other day. She said that the real concern would be if you are very very large and pregnant (last month or two) and laying completely flat (no pillow under your head or anything).

No, you can have sex in any position that you are comfortable. If you enjoy it on your back, do it as long as you can because once you get that belly, it's going to be difficult.
When I was pregnant, my sciatic nerve bothered me, so it was hard to lay on either side. Up until my last trimester the most comfortable position for me to sleep was on my back. My OB told me that was fine. Sleep is important, so sometimes you just have to lay the way you are most comfortable.

I think its okay during sex remember at the Dr's office they have you lay on your back for ultrasounds, checkups, and sometimes a couple of hours for monitoring. Mostly it is uncomfortable for you to lay on your back. But while I was pregnant with my twins the dr told me that the heavy weight could cut off some of the blood flow to your brain. When it comes to laying on your back just do what is comfortable for you.

I layed on my back occasionally and I know that while sleeping I sometimes woke up on my back - not much you can do then! I think the concern is the length of time spent on your back as it causes pressure to other body parts during pregnancy. After awhile it just wasn't comfortable.

You can sleep on your back.. just not on your stomach. I am 28 wks and have to rotate all night long. I start on my right side.. then about 2 hours wake up sleep my back about another 2 hours.. then move to the left side.. then when it is time to get up.. I am somehow on my back anyway. You just should not sleep the whole night on your back.. but that is when you are further along.. about your 3rd trimester. When the baby starts weighing enough to put pressure on your nerves in your back and cutting off circulation to your legs. Good luck.. Congrats!

My OBGYN told me not to sleep or have sex on my back after 16 weeks...of course I still find myself waking up on my back...I'm 6 months along so it's not uncomfortable for me to lay on my back yet...as for sex...the hardest thing is the size of your tummy! Not the fact that you're lying on your back. I try my hardest to be on my back...but my belly just gets in the way!!! My husband and I's bellies just compete for space. I wouldn't worry about it too much...especially if you're not too far along (1st or 2nd trimester)
Good luck!

Your left side is optimal for sleeping. You will most likely have to change your sex position at some point anyway because of your growing belly...Here are some to try to keep it out of the way...Side lying, you on top, him in a chair you in his lap facing away, from behind...the possibilities are endless. Be creative you will have to be soon anyway as you won't be able to do it lying down much longer.
