They are upset because the company changed policies that really doesnot effect them. They started yelling at their boss. Should the be fired or what? We live in at AT-will state.

I would give the employee a written warning for insubordination. And I would tell them they will be fired if they ever speak that way to a supervisor again.

If your employee is rude to you, they will be rude to your customers and vendors, not cool.

Personally, I would pull the employee to the back and tell them they need to calm down so we could talk. Then if they refused to calm down I would explain that decisions were being made with every word they uttered and that those decisions would be final and binding. If they wanted to continue down the path that they were going we'd have to go with the decision they were making and terminate employment for gross misconduct. If they would like to make the decision to calm down and discuss the situation in a rational manner then maybe we can resolve the situation and all go back to being productive.

Terminate him/her. That much anger, based on principles....even if they apologize, they'll be toxic to morale. You'll lose productivity and eventually several other employees if you hold on to this one. They're gone anyway, it's just a matter of time until they find that other job they're looking for.

I know....I'm the type who usually blows up at my bosses when they issue stupid, petty, poorly thought-out policies.
