My 16 year old son and a 21 year old woman have fallen in love. The friendship immediately went from friendship to love within a week.
Why does this happen? Is it wrong?

First, thank you for all the answers. I'm glad I'm not alone in how I feel about this. I should also make it clear that he mutually pursued her, while I thought they were simply work buddies.
I agree that age is just a number, and if he was 21 and she 25, I’d have less trouble. I might still be concerned, but at least it wouldn’t make me so ill.
Our state says that at 16 you can legally consent to sex with anyone 16 and above. While my son denies that they’ve had sex, I’m still not comfortable with any sort of relationship with her. He deserves to have proper friendship/relationships with teenagers his own age.
We've stopped all contact between the two, including the phone and internet. My son is heart broken and so am I, that his first love was someone who in my eyes has serious problems.
I see her as a sexual predator and/or pedophile and I am still interested in what makes a 21 year old be attracted to a 16 year old boy. Is she really a predator/pedophile?
Thanks!

this is infatuation and nothing else.this is just physical attraction and nothing else.take him away for a holiday and counsel him for sometime.take him to a good psychologist for a discussion.and get him involved in some activities which may divert his attention.keep him busy most of the time.

It does happen. Is it wrong, yes by all US social standards yes it's wrong, she is called a pedophile but generally that term is used for much younger than 16 but your son is a minor and is therefore under your care. I've seen this before when a 21 year old girl fell in love with a 10 year old. It lasted for the summer and that's about it.
Don't be too worried, at least it's not a 21 year old guy in love with your daughter. If you want to be sure (and a little mean) slip some potassium nitrate into his drink and that will stop any kind of sexual happenings from going on.
Oh BTW, another name for that chemical is saltpeter.

I must tell you that age is just a number when it comes to love, but in the same way she should know better she is the adult. Another that you should it wont last because remember she is problem his first lady that he has ever been with so once he get a taste and it starts getting old he will want a new taste in his life it is a known fact. So you can either let it go and let nature take it's place, in the long road it will not last.

I don't know about women, but I think men get obsessed with the very young because they can domineer that person; they don't have to do the give and take that is a natural part of an adult relationship. More and more adults seem to act like children.

Females can be sexual predators too. She is an adult, he is a juvenile. She can be arrested for her behavior. You need to take control of the situation and if she won't leave, report her to the police.

I cant imagine WHAT would make this kind of behavior happen.....if we understood ALL deviant behavior, society would be in better shape....anyway, remind this adult that she is committing a felony and report her to the proper authorities...

Not Cool........
Lock that woman up for even thinking that it is OK.
Save your son the emotional trauma....its probably a first love....and it is not appropriate......Is she a teacher....
Seriously....Lock her up and get your son counseling to know what healthy relationships should be.......

Your son is a CHILD. This woman is obviously emotionally immature. And this "one week" thing?? Come on!!
Do you really need to ask if this is wrong?
