Of all the continents Africa is without doubt the poorest, few countries on this continent are well governed and are generally ruled by despots and the people have been worse off since the end of colonialism, Why is this?

Because too many African countries were colonies by other european forces or the us and when they finally became independent,it was hard to struggle with the problems that followed. hence africa soon met it's financial demise.

you have summed it up in a few lines. Bad government not for all but for a select few, added to this the western multi nationals which are still exploiting the continent and giving very little back. as for being worse off since the end of colonialism I don,t agree its just been substituted for another type of dictatorship

There are a lot of reason such as invasion, lack of natural resources, you know Africa is very diverse in ethnic groups and languages so maybe that has something to do with the proverty level.

the reasn might be tat the people there are accustomed to many things like if their fore fathers had been involved in pottery or hunting the younger generations take up the same for their living . their views are not broad as illiterate percent is high ther. oly if they hav enuf knowledge they l be capable of directing their views into a proper stream and develop the nation.

1. AIDS/Ebola is killing of workers who can sustain a health economy.
2. Years of oppression and colonization
3. Famine, because of global warming, the deserts are actually expanding.
4. Religious disputes causes civil wars and destroyes homes and business's.
5. A desire to keep their ancestors culture, and not materialize their life.

not enough people with brains and too many people who kill people with brains. the colonial rulers at least kept a kind of peace, but suggesting that white rule was best for Africa is not PC anymore. too bad it is true!
