I have checked the fuse and it is fine. Niether the cigarette lighter or the rear power points are working.
I need to get it sorted for my sat nav before a long trip in march !

i often find that faults like this are due to a poor earth.

take your lighter out, earth it using some wire attatched to a good peice of exposed metal (not painted)

then run a wire direct from your positive battery terminal. if it works you know you either have a poor earth or power wire.

It seems a silly question to ask but are you sure you checked the correct fuse?

Is there a switch (check the manual) to disengage the power so children cannot poke metal objects into the sockets...

I don't know the Galaxy that well but hopefully this gives you something to think about.

You'll find that when the lighter got stuck and was hot for a long time it damaged the holder, creating a short. You'll probably have to get a replacement.... It would be easy enough to connect your Sat-Nav to an alternative 12v source but this requires some knowledge of the cars electrical system/layout....

Alrite Musch., sounds like you might have an earth shorting out, somewhere along the way.. Rear power points? If you mean lights, then remove the bulbs dry them, check for damp inside holders... and hopefully, you can get navigating!

Try buying a new cigarrete lighter part (the actual plug-in part that comes off in your hand).

That has happened to me in the past and the stupid suggestion I just gave you actually WORKED!

Go figure!

well, being a ford it may have decided its time you stopped smoking... but the element of the lighters do fail... go to a scrap yard... or buy a new one.
